Do you eat fish?
If you do, inshore fishing is better than ever. As Mahi-mahi and Tuna are not really out there, smoked fish lovers will be more than satisfied with the abundance of Spanish mackerel. Ojaran III and Ojaran II have had more than seventy mackerels in the last month. You can also have some snappers, jacks and in a big quantity, fun to catch but not eatable, Roosterfish. Talking about offshore action, Sailfish is on the top. Ojaran II has released five Sailfish on the first seven days of the month. Ojaran III has had thirteen. A few Marlin and a few Mahi have been caught.
What’s on?
Extreme weather changes have been affecting water temperature. This is a The La Niña Phenomenon year. The La Nina is usually described as a cooler than average sea surface temperature in this area of the Pacific. The La Nina phenomenon is known to occur every few years in this area and beyond, and it is known to last anywhere from a few months to as long as two years or so. Some fish like Dorado, need warmer water temperatures.

Captain Junior and mate Alex caught 1 Marlin, 4 Sailfish and 2 Dorado on January 29th. Captain Mike and mate Joseph caught a 65 pounds Yellow Fin Tuna on February the 5th. Ojaran II had a broken rod when a huge Manta ray pulled like a bull in a split second. (Sorry Mike).

Thinking about a big sailfish?
The time has come for this ocean treasure and the year starts with a decent number on the reports. From now until April, boats will chase more Sailfish than any other months of the year. Only in the first two weeks of January, Ojaran II and Ojaran III have released 19 Sailfish. They have come joined with a Marlin and rarely a Mahi-Mahi. This is not really the a good times for Tuna lovers so; we definitely stand up for Billfish during these months and Marlin has been showing up too. The first two weeks in January were nice for Captain Rocco and mate who released 5 Marlin around 200 and 300 pounds on the Ojaran II. Cold water has been enemy number one when looking for a nice Mahi-Mahi these days. Even in those conditions, truly expert captains and mates have found warmer rips where Dorado have been boated. Inshore fishing lovers will be fascinated with the great opportunities to catch a delicious Spanish mackerel. Daily fishing reports stand from 10 to 25 Mackerels in one boat. Ojaran II had 16 on January 12th. Real Deal came back water to catch a couple of Roosterfish the second week of January. Amberjacks have been present too.

Happy New Year, and bienvenidos to Quepos and Manuel Antonio.December began the prime fishing season for our fishing fleet and we’re all geared up and ready to take you fishing. The Sailfish bite is good and should begin to get better each week, with Mahi Mahi fishing still very hot, some being in the 40 to 50 pound range. The Marlin bite is fantastic, the Ojaran III with Captain Junior and mate Alex have released (9) Marlin in the last 4 days. Yellow Fin Tuna are being boated some 80 pounders. Rooster fish are also being boated on our inshore trips, with two to five fish being released. Fishing in Quepos is always good year round.

Fishing has been excellent in our area. Sailfish, Tuna, and Mahi Mahi are being released daily, with Amberjack still being boated. Snapper & Rooster fish action has been great, with 2 to 3 fish being released on our half day charters. Several have been 30# to 35#. Fishing in Quepos is always good year round.
