Putting things together. Parte II.
Feliz día de la amistad y del amor – Happy Valentine’s Day. Let’s start with some lines that you may use this febrero:
Estoy enamorado(a) = I’m in love.
Te amo = I love you.
Te quiero mucho = I love so much.
Quiero darte un beso = I want to give you a kiss.
¡Qué cursi! = ¡How corny!
Guys: ¿Do you know how to make a question in inglés? ¿Do you start the question with an action word (verb), with the subject (subject), with the helping guy (auxiliary) or with something else (the rest)? Let’s see:
¿Does Marcela read a book at her house?
Does = auxiliary.
Marcela = subject;
read = verb;
a book at her house = the rest.
¿Do we walk to the beach in the mornings?
Do = auxiliary;
we = subject;
walk = verb;
to the beach in the mornings = the rest.
¿Does the cat live happily because it eats rats?
Does = auxiliary;
the cat = subject;
live = verb;
happily because it eats rats = the rest.
¡Excelente! You do know how to make a question in inglés. Follow the fórmula:
¿Auxiliary + Subject + Verb + The rest?
Spanish is way much easier. ¡No auxiliaries at all! You only need to reverse the order of a statement and put the verb before the subject. Put a symbol like this one: ¿ at the begining and another like this one: ? at the end. Follow the fórmula:
¿Verb + Subject + The rest?
¿Lee (verbo) + Marcela (sujeto) + un libro en su casa (el resto)?
¿Caminamos (verbo) + nosotros (sujeto) + a la playa en las mañanas (el resto)?
¿Vive (verbo) + el gato (sujeto) + felizmente porque él come ratas (el resto)?
It can’t be easier, right? Verb before the subject.
Well, it can be easier! If you take a normal statement and change the tone of your voice it will sound like a question. Just use a rising intonation. Say these sentences out loud and listen the difference in the tone of your voice:
Marcela reads a book at her house. Statement.
Marcela lee un libro en su casa. Statement.
¿Marcela reads a book at her house? Question.
¿Marcela lee un libro en su casa? Question.
Guys: ¿Do you know how to make a Wh. question in inglés? ¿Do you know at least what a Wh. question is? Yes? It’s a question that begins with a Wh. word such as ”What”, “Where”, “Who”, “Why”, “Which”, “When” and/or “How”.
Guys: ¿Do you know how to make a Wh. question in español? ¿Do you know at least how to say ”What”, “Where”, “Who”, “Why”, “Which”, “When” and/or “How” in español? No? Let’s fix that right now = ahora mismo.
Find a pen and write 5 times the Wh. words in español right after the word in inglés. ¡Do it now! Watch out the accents (tildes) and the ¿? symbols.

¿Qué? = ¿What? =
¿Dónde? = ¿Where? =
¿Cuándo? = ¿When? =
¿Cuál? = ¿Which? =
¿Quién? = ¿Who? =
¿Cuánt@? = ¿How much? =
¿Cuánt@s? = ¿How many? =
¿Por qué? = ¿Why? =
Use the same pen and match them. No looking.

Hold the same pen and puncture your hand (or your brain) until you memorize them. No pain, no gain. These words are more than important. We are gonna use them in context and survival questions pronto. Apply yourselves guys. ONE HOUR per day. ¡Vamos-come on!
