So last month I told you all about how epic the fishing is here. And now in January, Marina Pez Vela is hosting the ROCKSTAR Fishing Tournament, brought to you by Pelagic, January 12-14. Expect this event to be exactly what the namesake says. ROCKSTAR. The bite is hot, and this tournament is going to make it hotter! With new slips installed at Marina Pez Vela, we’re seeing more and more interest in our Quepos/Manuel Antonio area. There’s definitely more boats at the marina, and plenty more are making use of the monster boat lift as well. Marina Pez Vela and iFish Quepos are taking tournaments seriously. Not only do we have the Pelagic ROCKSTAR tournament, we have the 6th Annual Quepos Billfish Cup, happening February 1-4. Looking for a bit later in the year? The Marina Pez Vela Open is April 19-21, and is a warm-up for the Offshore World Championship, which starts April 22 and runs through April 28.
Anyone who fishes knows that the Offshore World Championship is the world’s largest bragging rights tournament. I mean, seriously, a team gets crowned World Champions and wins NO cash. It is ALL bragging rights, so you’ve gotta be a sick hardcore kind of fisherman to take that kind of punishment should you lose. But – if you are that hardcore fisherman, any day on the water is a winning one.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing the season play out. The past few years we’ve had record catches, and it would be nice to see the bite play out again this year. It seems that it will so far.
