What’s Shaking at Marina Pez Vela – April 2018
While it’s almost impossible to imagine a month with more activity than this past March with our amazing Quepos Billfish Cup, Semana Santa and the completion of Costa Rica’s second and final round to elect our next president… APRIL is even MORE ACTION PACKED!!! While tournament fishing is definitely at the forefront of our April calendar, there are some other important events and opportunities to share with the our community and we invite and hope to see all of you here sharing in the energy and excitement this month!
FISHING TOURNAMENTS
We have teams from around Costa Rica and the World coming to Marina Pez Vela this month and have created a two leg tournament series to insure the most fun and competitive fishing environment on the planet for these anglers.
Marina Pez Vela Open, April 12-14
The actions starts with the MPV Open which is an open tournament where local anglers from Costa Rica and the world can register and compete in this three day event. Many participating in the OWC (offshore world championship) come early to “pre-fish” and the MPV Open provides an amazing platform for non-qualifying and participating teams to take part, warm up, win some money, and enjoy the world class waters of the area. marinapezvelatournaments.com/event/2018-marina-pez-vela-open/
Offshore World Championship, April 16 – April 20
The World Series, Super Bowl, Heavyweight Title fight and Olympic Gold medal round for the world of offshore fishing once again comes to Marina Pez Vela. This tournament brings teams from countries around the globe and requires participating teams to have won a tournament in the previous year’s qualifying circuit. Teams from as far as Australia and Brazil descend upon our community in a unique tournament where ALL teams are fishing on National Costa Rican Charter boats, with a rotation to a new boat each day to insure a level playing field. Daily dock socials, parties, weigh-ins for species which are not catch and release make for an incredible energy each morning and afternoon at the project and EVERYONE should come out to join in the activity and support their favorite teams from around the world. offshoreworldchampionship.com
RADIO DOS
Do not miss the live radio show with Evan Luck on the world famous RadioDios (FM 99.5) or online at radiodos.com broadcast live from the Runaway Grill each Thursday from 5-7. Not that anyone in Quepos/Manuel Antonio needs a good excuse for a happy hour and sunset, we have gone out of our way to create a fun live broadcast and invite locals, expats and tourists alike to come down, enjoy the live show and to join our team on the air to share stories about your experiences at the marina or in the area. We will be doing the show live each day throughout the OWC as well, so this month we will have nearly 10 live shows for you to come and share. Grab the family and friends, and treat yourself to some great food, great cold drinks, a magical sunset, and some laughs with the best radio show in the country.
MOVIE NIGHTS
Barring a change in the weather, April is traditionally our FINAL month for our outdoor FREE MOVIE NIGHTS. This has become such an amazing way to kick of the weekend for families, tourist and locals alike who come for the sunset, to enjoy dinner at one of our 6 restaurants, and watch a great movie under the stars. Here is the line-up for April and keep in mind that during the tournament dates we do not have any movies planned.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
April 27-28
While you wouldn’t normally associate the Marina with Beach Volleyball, the 4 courts built here played host to the national beach volleyball final last year and even a bit of rain couldn’t but a damper on the energy and excitement. WE have another Beach Volleyball tournament scheduled for the courts at MPV on April 28 and 29. Teams from around the country will be competing for the top spot, trophies and prizes and the event is open to the public.
