What’s Shaking @ Marina Pez Vela – February 2021

Marina Pez Vela brought in 2021 with some AMAZING experiences, energy and most importantly hope for a better year to come. There is tremendous energy at the project right now, some amazing new tenants, Costa Rica’s biggest Sportfishing tournament ever and February is going to bring more success stories and life to our community. We are so honored to be a part of the reactivation of our community, to be creating a public space to share with locals and tourists alike, and to be helping to demonstrate how we can all work collaboratively to create SAFE spaces where health protocols and security can allow us to share and create memories in this beautiful part of the world.

ROCKSTAR WAS HUGE

There are times when a name is just hype, times when the promise of something is bigger than the event itself, times where it’s all talk and no walk. AND THEN THERE WAS THE 2021 ROCKSTAR TOURNAMENT. 67 teams, more than $970,000 in prize money on the line, INSANE billfish bite with 364 anglers releasing 922 Billfish, including 37 blue marlin and 1 striped marlin in this two day extravaganza.

Here are the results.

Big Boat Division
First Place: Cabana with 3800 points
Second Place: Game Plan with 3500 points
Third Place: FishTank with 3400 points
 
Small Boat Division
First Place: Rockstar with 2100 points
Second Place: Gamefisher 2 with 1400 points
Third Place: Trifecta with 1300 points
 
Team Alaska, Good Times, Marina Pez Vela, and Kenneth Knock Development all took home prices in the Tuna and Dorado gamefish divisions.
 
Rockstar was much bigger than just the world class fishing, it was about the Marina, our community and all of the amazing teams who came to share with us showing the world we are BACK, that TOGETHER we can honor both protocol and health concerns, and still enjoy this amazing facility at Marina Pez Vela and the world class waters off our coastline!  

FEBRUARY TOURNAMENTS

We have two more important tournaments coming in February which make up part of the most active tournament season EVER here at Marina Pez Vela. We have a total of 10 events this year to help keep our community on the map and everyone having opportunities to enjoy both big competitive fishing and super fun daily events. 

ROOSTER RODEO, February 6th
This is a one day catch and release tournament targeting one of the most amazing and sought after fish in the sea, the Gallo or Roosterfish. While the big game billfishing captures of a lot of global attention, we have world record Roosterfish in our waters and this one day event is an AMAZING opportunity to experience the inshore fishing. It’s a great opportunity for an affordable and fun introduction to fishing, time with friends and also to share with some of the world’s BEST inshore anglers who join for this event. PESCADORA, February 19th/20th
Last year’s first annual Pescadora tournament was one of the highlights of the year. This all female anglers tournament is MUCH more than just a ton of fun, but is also one of the most competitive angling events anywhere in CR. The top two anglers in the Rockstar were female anglers and Costa Rica is home to some of the best female anglers anywhere on the planet. This two day event is going to be bigger and better than ever with teams from around the world converging on MPV to take the title of the best female angler around. The success of last year’s tourney has already led to spin offs all over, but this two day event sets the bar, and the second annual event, organized by our own Samatha Mumford and her amazing team is going to be epic. 

COVID TESTING

With the new regulations requiring US Citizens have a negative Covid test prior to returning to the USA we want to advise that Hospital Metropolitano is offering both PCR and Antigen testing right here at Marina Pez Vela. Hospital Metro has expanded their operational hours to make these tests easy for any visitors to the area.

They are currently open with the following schedule.
Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm
Saturday, 9am-5pm
Sunday, 9am-Noon

NEW ADDITIONS AT MPV

We are excited to welcome FADS Deli, and Emilio’s Café and Jungle Avenue to the family here at Marina Pez Vela.

FADS opened last month and is a full service Deli located in front of the boat slips adjacent to CR Marine and has some AMAZING baked goods, daily lunch specials, made to order sandwiches, and is already the spot for charters and private boats looking for catering services for breakfasts and lunches. This is ANOTHER locally owned business, working to shine here in the project so come out and support them

Emilio’s Cafe is opening this month with a Jungle Avenue boutique included up in the main Plaza level. That’s right, FINALLY you have a place to come and enjoy an amazing cup of coffee, some of Emlio’s world famous desserts, some light menu options, and a place to just relax and let time stand still. Emilio’s has become a famous part of our community in Manuel Antonio and we are incredibly proud to have yet another local business owner growing with us here at MPV!
